Convergence 2008 - M&A Summit in the Hamptons

Murray Beach is managing director of TM Capital and head of its technology division. Mr. Beach is also chairman of M&A International, an alliance of 41 member firms in 38 countries. .

William A. Brewer III co-founded Bickel & Brewer in 1984 and practices exclusively in the field of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Mr. Brewer represents investor Sam Wyly in the latter’s proxy fights with Computer Associates.

Michael Bruder heads the Special Situations Group at Macquarie Capital Advisors and manages the firm's New York group. Prior to joining Macquarie in February, Mr. Bruder was head of restructuring at CIBC World Markets in New York, where he founded the middle market debtor-side focused group.

Marvin A. Davis, a partner with Grisanti, Galef & Goldress Inc., has supervised the turnaround of over 100 U.S. and international corporations, ranging from airlines to high tech barcode printers. He is the author of Take No Prisoners: A No-Holds Barred Approach to Corporate Excellence (Amacon: 2006).

Warren H. Feder is a partner with Carl Marks Advisory Group LLC. Mr. Feder has more than 25 years experience counseling and directing corporate mergers, acquisitions, turnarounds, LBO’s, raising capital, and investing.

Thomas J. Friedmann is a partner in the Corporate and Securities Group at Dechert LLP. Mr. Friedmann focuses his practice on the representation of issuers and investment banks in public and private securities transactions.

Rick Grubaugh is a senior vice president of D.F. King & Co. and co-director of the firm’s Strategic Analysis and Proxy Division.  Mr. Grubaugh advises corporations and shareholders involved in complex transactions specializing in corporate control situations such as proxy contests, mergers and hostile tender offers and recommends shareholder communications strategies for public companies in crisis situations.

John Adams Kanas is senior advisor to WL Ross & Co. in New York. Appointed president of North Fork Bank, a three-branch institution in Suffolk Co., N.Y., while still in his 20s, he proceeded to develop and implement an acquisition strategy that built North Fork into the country’s 16th largest bank holding company. Mr. Kanas sold North Fork to Capital One in 2006 for $14.6 billion.

Harvey R. Miller, a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, had been a member of the firm’s management committee for over 25 year, creating the firm’s Business Finance & Restructuring department. Described by the Wall Street Journal as the “legendary bankruptcy king,” Mr. Miller returned to Weil last year after four years as vice chairman and managing director at Greenhill & Co. for four years. A lecturer in law at Columbia University, Mr. Miller is a member of the university’s Dean’s Council; member, National Bankruptcy Conference; fellow, American College of Bankruptcy; fellow, American Bar Foundation; and trustee, Committee on Economic Development.

Clifford E. Neimeth, a partner at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has over 22 years experience in public M&A deals, having structured, managed, negotiated and executed transactions in excess of $125 billion aggregate. He regularly advises boards, independent committees and senior management regarding their fiduciary duties, corporate governance best practices, and M&A transactions.

Mark J. Lerner co-founded Morgen, Evan & Co. in 1992. Prior to that he was managing director and head of Japan Corporate Finance Group at Chase Manhattan Bank.

Scott Mozarsky is Chief Operating Officer of United Business Media LLC (formerly CMP), responsible for profitability and M&A activity at the TechWeb, Everything Channel, TechInsights and Think Services divisions. Since joining UBM in 2000, Mr. Mozarsky has handled corporate development and M&A for UBM’s US-based subsidiaries including CMP Media, PR Newswire, Commonwealth Business Media and CMPMedica, handling over 60 transactions, including joint ventures and strategic alliances, worldwide.

Dan Rattiner is founder and editor of Dan’s Papers, which he began nearly half a century ago. In 1993 he sold his majority interest in the company to News Communications, Inc. A collection of Mr. Rattiner’s writings, In The Hamptons, was published earlier this year by Harmony Books (Crown Press). According to Billy Joel, “If anyone wanted some insight into what made this area such an interesting place, all they'd need was a copy of In the Hamptons.”

David L. Shrier is chief operating officer of the Ronco Acquisition Corp.

Allan Sloan is senior editor at large at Fortune, after leaving as Newsweek's Wall Street editor last June. A popular TV and radio guest, his own “Sloan Report” is broadcast Monday mornings on Marketplace over Public Radio International. Newsday editor Tony Marro calls Mr. Sloan “brilliant, unforgiving, impatient and tenacious,” whose voice sounds “like an approaching subway train.”

Makarand Teje is president and chief operating officer of Applabs, Inc. Mr. Teje is responsible for the software testing company’s operations in the U.S. and in India.

Jeffrey Wurst is a partner at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C., where he is chairman of the Financial Services, Banking, & Bankruptcy Department. Mr. Wurst is president of the New York Institute of Credit and is a vice president of the Turnaround Management Association International.

Christopher Young is vice president and director of M&A research at Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS). His team provides analysis and vote recommendations for mergers and proxy fights.
